Can a website redesign get you more enquiries?

The client

Andy Dennis is an experienced nurse and speaker. He focuses on charity and not-for-profit fundraising, drawing on his time volunteering with MSF in Sierra Leone’s Ebola camps and South Sudan’s displacement centres. He gives talks across Yorkshire and was getting more bookings – but his website was not keeping pace.

Andy came to me with a clear goal: get more enquiries from event organisers, clubs and societies.

The challenge

Andy’s original site was working, but not working hard enough. A few things stood out:

  • There was no dedicated page showing his speaking credentials or testimonials.
  • The messaging did not say “book Andy for your event” clearly enough.
  • The design did not steer visitors towards an email address or contact form.
  • Nothing on the site pushed strongly towards the two things that mattered most: making contact or donating.

The solution

We agreed on a redesign built around a few key changes.

A speaker testimonial page. We created a page featuring past speaking engagements, a couple of testimonials, and a strong call to action to book Andy. This made his credentials much more visible to anyone thinking about inviting him to speak.

A clear enquiry path. We simplified the journey: homepage, then speaking page, then enquiry form. The form became easy to find and quick to fill in.

Copy written for event organisers. We rewrote the content to speak directly to the people booking speakers – what Andy brings, what past clients say, and why he is worth inviting.

A clean, professional look. We refreshed the design to match Andy’s experience: modern but approachable, credible but not cold. The site also needed to look good on a phone, because event planners are often reviewing options on the move.

A nod to the local area. Andy works across Yorkshire, and many events in the charity sector happen close to home. We made sure the site spoke to regional event planners by referencing Yorkshire and Harrogate where it made sense.

The result

Since the redesign:

  • Andy has seen a threefold increase in speaking enquiries.
  • One new booking came from Tramlines Festival in Sheffield, with the testimonial page playing a clear part in securing it.
  • Event organisers have told Andy how easy it is to find his speaker profile and get in touch.

What this means for your business

Here are the lessons that apply to any small business, charity, or organisation in Harrogate and North Yorkshire.

Show your services clearly. Andy needed a dedicated “book me” page. Most professional services benefit from the same thing: one clear page for your key offering.

Make it easy to get in touch. Fewer clicks, less friction, more enquiries. Remove anything that slows people down on the way to your contact form.

Use testimonials well. Real people saying real things builds trust quickly. Put them where they count – close to the point where someone is deciding whether to get in touch.

Design for your audience. For many businesses in this region, that means clean and straightforward with an honest tone. Nothing flashy. Nothing that gets in the way.

Local references help. Even if you work nationally, mentioning your region builds a connection with nearby prospects and helps with local search.

A final word

Andy’s redesign was not about adding features. It was about clarity – knowing what the site needed to do, and removing everything that stood in the way. If you think your website could be bringing in more enquiries, I would be glad to have a chat.

If you read this and a question came up, I am happy to talk it through. Everyone is coming from a different angle, but I offer a chat about your project with no obligation. You do not have to have a brief ready. Most people just want to know if what they have in mind is achievable and what it might cost. Let's talk about your project.
