An Environmentally Friendly Web Designer In Harrogate, North Yorkshire

How am I becoming an environmentally friendly web designer? Environmental Sustainability in web design is a bit of a dark topic – it is more about what the individual can do to limit their impact and the impact of Digital Culture with the means given to them. Web Design is a dirty industry, after all. But, what is Andrew Backhouse Design doing to become a green web designer and a sustainable web and graphic designer at that.

Environmental sustainability is a hot topic – and moving forward, one that I hope to tackle as a designer. Working in Digital Culture, my hands are pretty much tied to the methods and technologies available – it is a price driven, cut-throat industry and stating your green credentials is not an easy task.

An Environmentally Friendly Web Designer

For a start, I am a member of Tree Nation, Ecologi & Zero Carbon Harrogate. These off-setting projects are not a solution in themselves; yes, I am planting tees to off-set my carbon footprint but this does not account for much if I do not take in to consideration my business practice as an environmentally friendly designer. Change starts with the individual and I am

aiming to be green. To see my credentials please see the icons in the below this text.

A Green Web Designer In Harrogate

To start my pitch – I will say that I work from home and that I am in charge of the electricity that is used to power my home office. I use a 100% renewable source of electricity. The servers that I use to host the websites are run by Eco Web Hosting. Eco Web Hosting are at the green end of the spectrum when it comes to environmentally responsible hosting. They have a reforestation campaign and they use energy efficient hardware which further minimises impact.

I work remotely from my client, meaning that there is no overland commute. When I do have to make a journey, I always use public transport or I walk to my appointment (if my appointment is in Harrogate).

I run a paperless office and have advanced personal eco-practices. I really am trying to limit my impact on our planet, so that there is still a wide Biodiversity for future generations to appreciate.

Do You Want An Environmentally Friendly Web Design?

So, we have established that Digital Culture is a pretty dirty industry – Servers are massive polluters; take Bitcoin for example. The currency had the same power consumption in 2018 as the whole of Switzerland – that is a virtual currency that runs on servers. It is a global crisis. There is no Planet B.

Andrew Backhouse Design is trying to limit their environmental impact by using Green Practices (professionally and personally) that will enable you to have a website with a Green conscience. Get in contact if you want to talk more about my pledge.

Why Environmentally Friendly Web Design?

I have a background as an environmentalist. I have helped campaign on behalf of environmental causes for decades and I am proud of that. We have passed the tipping point and we need to keep cutting our impact – that is why I offer environmentally friendly web design.

Whether it was writing to my MP or by my consumer choices – there is a growing surge in Environmental awareness. And, I am over the moon with that. We only have a few years left before we reach an irreversible point. The Tipping Point where there is no going back – and, it is caused my mankind.

I offer environmentally friendly web design so that I can say “I played my part in helping environmental causes.”
