Charity Work As A Designer

As a designer, I am available for charity work at a discounted rate. I recently designed DJ Scooby’s prohibition style Big Band Sunday Poster, and I also threw together some mini business cards for him. DJ Scooby is a charity fundraiser for Doctors Without Borders (MSF / Medicins sans Frontieres). To raise life-saving funds, he plays a residency in Major Tom’s Social every second Sunday of the month at 1pm – playing Big Band Music & Exotica.

Previously, I had the pleasure of designing Scooby’s website for him – so some of the graphics were available to me on my computer. The Mexican “Day Of Death” lady skull is one of them – she is something, isn’t she? It features on his website’s header, at www.soundofwonder.co.uk, and it features on his business cards. Here are the designs for his cards.

I wanted to design a poster that reflected the music that DJ Scooby played when he held his residency, Big Band Swing & Britxotica. The vibe was that of a Speak-Easy. So, I went with a poster that evoked the Bathtub-Gin Salons of the prohibition era.

I’m very happy with how it turned out.
