Designing Artwork For An EP
As readers of my blog may know, I take a lot of pleasure in designing for music. I enjoy designing download covers for experimental music releases. Quite handy really, as I am part of the experimental music label, Focused Silence.
I am the boss-man at Focused Silence. It is my label and I have helped get it where it is today. Quite pleased with that. One of the perks is that I get to design the album covers for people who want to release on the label, should they oblige.
It is not a generic one-size-fits-all. The artist has a say in the design. I do not force my work on the release – after all, design is a conversation.
Tony James Morton has a release out on the 17th February on Focused Silence called Fragments – it is a great release. You can listen to the opening track from the EP below. To achieve the recording, Tony built his own custom DJ Rig that samples vinyl records and re-interprets them – Live! Tony’s live show must be a feat to behold. The ‘Fragments’ release is the first for Tony on Focused Silence and if you want to have a look at the artwork, it is embedded above.
The album cover was drawn up in Affinity Photo and then sent off for Duplication at a tip-top secret CD plant that I use. I am moved more and more towards Affinity Photo – it is a lot more lightweight than Photoshop, a lot less CPU intensive. It does just as a good a job, too. Fragments will be out as a mini-CD and Download – you can find out more about it HERE.
