Creative Harrogate

Creative Harrogate needed an online home. Somewhere to promote events, sell tickets and let people book the space for hire. I had already worked with one of the admins there, so when they needed a site built, they came to me.

What the brief was

Promote events. Sell tickets. Let people book the space for hire when they are not using it themselves. That was the brief, in three parts.

What I did

Colour did a lot of the work on this one. Creative Harrogate needed a look people would remember, something that stood out rather than blending into every other local events page.

The site is fully responsive, so it works the same whether someone is booking on a phone in a queue or planning ahead on a laptop. That also helps anyone using assistive technology, since a site that adapts properly to different screens and settings tends to work better for everyone, not just people on a particular device.

For ticketing, there are a lot of platforms to choose from. We settled on Ticket Tailor. It does the job without overcomplicating things, and it was straightforward to build into the rest of the site.

Creative Harrogate also needed a simple way for their admin to add and update events without needing me every time. I built that in from the start, so keeping the events list current is something they can do themselves.

I used Lean UX principles throughout: build something, test it, improve it, rather than trying to get everything perfect before launch. The result works as both a ticketing hub and a digital home for Harrogate's creative community.

I quoted the whole project as a fixed price upfront, the same as I do with every build, so there were no surprises on cost partway through.

Where it stands now

The site is live. I am still working through the SEO, so it is early days for how it performs in search, but the structure is there to build on. Creative Harrogate can run their events and take bookings without leaning on me for every update, which was the point.

If your agency has a client that needs a booking or ticketing system built into their site properly, not just bolted on, that is the kind of integration work I take on for white label projects too.
