Accessibility statement for andrewbackhouse.design
This accessibility statement applies to the website at andrewbackhouse.design.
This website is run by Andrew Backhouse, trading as Andrew Backhouse Design. I want as many people as possible to be able to use this website.
For example, that means you should be able to:
- navigate most of the website using a keyboard
- navigate most of the website using modern screen reader software
- zoom in up to 300 percent without the text spilling off the screen
- view content on different screen sizes and orientations
I have tried to use clear language and simple layouts so content is easy to read and understand.
How accessible this website is
I know some parts of this website are not fully accessible.
For example:
- some images do not yet have helpful alternative text
- there is a Lottie animation that may not be fully described to screen reader users
- some older content may not have perfect heading structure or landmark roles
I am working to improve these areas over time.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility
I am committed to making this website accessible, in line with the spirit of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 AA, because of the non compliances listed below.
Non accessible content
The content listed below is not fully accessible for the following reasons.
Images and media
- Some images do not have appropriate alternative text.
- Some decorative images may have alt text when they should be marked as decorative only.
- The Lottie animation on the site may not be fully described for screen reader users.
I plan to:
- review and update image alt text across the site
- mark decorative images correctly
- improve how any animations are introduced or described
Page structure
On some pages, the heading structure or landmark roles may not be ideal. This can make it harder for some screen reader users to understand the page outline.
I plan to:
- review page templates
- fix heading levels where needed
- improve landmarks and regions where this will help navigation
Forms
The contact forms on this website use the WPForms plugin. WPForms is designed with accessibility in mind, but I have not tested every field with every assistive technology.
I will keep the forms under review and make changes if I find barriers for keyboard or screen reader users.
What I am doing to improve accessibility
I have carried out a mix of tool based and manual testing, including:
- keyboard only navigation checks
- basic screen reader checks
- colour contrast checks
As I design and update the site, I aim to:
- use clear, descriptive link text
- keep content and interactions simple
- avoid relying on colour alone to show meaning
- make sure buttons and links have visible focus states
Accessibility is an ongoing process. I will continue to review new content and features to keep improving.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared on 3 December 2025.
The website was last tested in 2025 using a mix of automated tools and manual checks by Andrew Backhouse.
